SXSW Chongqing Rugby Tournament
2014.10.18
The Conquerors and the WIldlings, hosted their first rugby tournament of the year (14/15), appropriately titled the “SXSW Rugby Tourney” as they invited rivaling Southwest China teams from Chengdu and Kunming. It was also a super successful one at that. First off, the rugby gods graced us with clear skies, after a week of non-stop wet weather. Second, the tournament tees were mighty perfect and sexy sexy sexyyy. Thirdly, the Conquerors kept the Cup home, winning their first tournament in years!
But wait the fun didn’t stop there!!! That was only the beginning of the day. Post-tournament, all the teams met up for a delicious dinner followed by a rambunctious night of booze, dancing, and tops-off parties. Needless to say the International China rugby community proved once again that they like to get down and have a hell of a good time together… ALWAYS.

Chengdu S8 7s Results
2014.06.11
Last weekend Chongqing Rugby Football Club sent a men’s and women’s team to Chengdu to attend their annual social 7s tournament the Maxxelli S8 7s. It was the last tournament of the 2013/2014 season for both the Chongqing Conquerors and the Chongqing Wildlings.
The Maxxelli S8 7s continues to grow in popularity each year, due to Chengdu Rugby Club being such amazing hosts, and this year was no exception. Contenders in the men’s tournament were 2 Beijing Devils teams, 2 Kunming Flying Tigers teams, the Xiamen Typhoons, the Chengdu Pandas and of course our Chongqing Conquerors.
Being near the end of the season, a lot of players had already left for the holidays so the Conquerors were not able to send their full team. The guys that went put up a great fight and after a long day of fast paced rugby 7s managed to pull through and defeat both of the Kunming teams. Although we were not able to overcome the more experienced Beijing Devils and Xiamen Typhoons we did manage to become the first team of the day to score against the Beijing Devils who were the eventual winners of the men’s tournament.
For the Wildlings having enough members to field a women’s team was itself a huge accomplishment. They got off to a rocky start against the Ruckin’ Reds but managed to pick up their game and, although they didn’t come away with any wins, they put up a good fight and had close games with both
the Xiamen Mizus and Shanghai Jenny Crabs who were the winners of the women’s tournament.
Congratulations to our men’s team on their wins and our girls on their first ever tournament! The weekend was a success over all and a fun way to bring the season to an end.

Chengdu S8 7s
2014.06.05
It’s that time of year again… time for Chengdu’s annual social 7s tournament! This will be the final tournament of the 2013/2014 season for the Chongqing Rugby Football Club. The tournament, named Maxxelli S8 7s, will see Chengdu hosting teams from cities all over China and will take place on Saturday the 14th of June.
7s is a much faster paced game than the usual 15s that the Conquerors play so it will be a challenging day and we are interested to see the results. This year for the first time ever we are entering both a men’s and women’s team! This will be the first ever tournament for the Wildlings and an opportunity for them to play some new teams.
The tournament kicks off at 9am and will be non-stop rugby until 4pm and an after party at the Shamrock from 9pm. Chengdu are fantastic hosts, so this will be an extremely fun weekend for players and supporters alike.

Saturday certainly was a rugby day, and a successful rugby day at that. The Chongqing Rugby Football Club hosted Chengdu in their final home game of the 2013/2014 season. Our men’s team, the Chongqing Conquerors, took on long-time rivals the Chengdu Pandas in one of their closest matches of the year and our newly formed women’s team hosted the Ruckin’ Reds in their second ever game.
The men’s game was a very close one with early breaks from our backs and constant attacks from the Pandas strong forward line. However a season of hard work and dedication from all of our guys finally paid off and the Conquerors broke their drought with a win against Chengdu! At full time the score was 14-12, with only a conversion making the difference in this competitive game.
The Chongqing Wildlings also secured their first ever win as a team! The Ruckin’ Reds were unfortunately unable to send their full team and were no match for the Wildlings who utilised their entire line, working well together and grabbing a secure victory with a final score of 38-7.
As everyone knows, rugby weekends are not only about rugby, but also about socializing after the games. This weekend was no different. Sponsor of the weekend, Pals Fort, hosted the after party and offered us some fantastic drinks deals to start the party off. No party between Chengdu and Chongqing would be complete without heavily contested boat races and sexy dance offs.
This was as always a fantastic weekend and with only one tournament left this season, has given us the high that we needed. Chongqing Rugby Football Club would like to thank the sponsors Pals Fort, for hosting such a great after party, and Box Bar for their continued support. We would also like to thank all the volunteers that continue to work behind the scene making these weekends happen.
